This has to be my favourite Grady story. It's a classic. It happened back when Lindsay was in high school. One month she suffered particularly severe cramps, and I let her stay home for the day, snuggled up with a blanket and a hot water bottle.
The next day I awaken to find my son lying supine on the couch, one arm flung feverishly over his head, uttering low groans. He has always somewhat dramatic! Meanwhile he has managed to con Sid into providing a cold compress for his head, and a glass of juice to aid her stricken brother.
The theatrics were totally lost on me. As I had told them many times, unless it's a broken bone or arterial blood, not to bother me with it. I asked Grady what ailed him, and he weakly replied "I'm sick. I think I have what Lindsay had". Ha, big mistake, he had overplayed his hand. I explained to Grady that without a uterus, he definitely did not have Lindsay's ailment, and he was to get his arse in gear and get ready for school.
Now, lest you judge me as a heartless parent, I wanted to make sure Grady was going to be OK at school, so I made sure to call his teacher and asked her to keep an eye on him as he was suffering from menstrual cramps. I'm pretty damn sure she was concerned enough about his welfare to pass the message along to ALL the teachers so they could jointly keep an eye on him. I'm happy to report that Grady never suffered from cramps again.
