Kickflipped My Dignity at Zumiez

One Saturday, Sid wanted to go to the local shopping centre, and not having her licence yet, meant she relied on one of her parents to provide a ride. Rob and I decided that we'd both accompany her, only to discover Sid had a set of rules - well it was really only one, we were expected to trail several steps behind, and whatever happened, under any circumstances we were not to make it obvious we were with her. Her father and I just smiled, the afternoon had suddenly become much more interesting.

As instructed, we dutifully following a safe distance behind her, until we came to Zumiez. This was an opportunity we just couldn't pass up. The store was geared towards teens, and when Sid took off to try on clothes, Rob and I surveyed the merchandise. He donned a large, garish pair of sunglasses (think Elton John), with the sole intent of embarrassing his youngest. Not to be outdone, I grabbed up a colourful skateboard and flaunting that, we laid in wait for Sid.

I leaned nonchalantly on a nearby display, only to discover to my horror it was on wheels, and as it shot across the floor, I went down. Unfortunately, as I did so, scrambling to keep my balance, I managed to smack Rob a glancing blow to the head with the skateboard. So there I am, crumpled on the floor, the marauding display has gained momentum across the shop floor and Rob is nursing the bump on his head. At that moment the cubicle door is flung open and Sid hisses at us "What the fuck are you two doing?" and retreats quickly back in the cubicle. I'm guessing she wasn't nearly as entertained as much as the other customers were. I staggered to my feet, giving the worried looking cashier a weak wave as I did so. Meanwhile I heard Sid telling us in no uncertain terms to leave the store immediately, and she wasn't coming out of the cubicle until we did.

The upside of this little adventure? Sid never asked us to take her to the mall again!! Oh, and a lifetime ban from Zumiez.
